MaxTC G4
Universal Semiconductor Thermal Control Unit
MD Thermal Control Units offer high efficiency and flexibility, supporting various package types and device sizes, whether socketed or soldered. Using advanced technology, they provide precise and consistent temperature control through direct contact with the thermal head’s tip.
The pneumatically driven thermal head ensures stable temperature regulation, excellent power handling, and precise control, making the units ideal for high-power devices, including AI – HPC & other extreme high-power devices.
The Mechanical Devices MaxTC G4 is a universal thermal control unit for precise semiconductor temperature testing. It provides direct-contact heating and cooling for device characterization, validation, reliability testing, ATE, SLT, and bench applications.
The MaxTC G4 operates from -70°C to +175°C, with a configuration supporting temperatures up to +200°C. This range enables cold, ambient, and high-temperature IC testing.
The MaxTC G4 provides cooling performance of -40°C at 90W Tc. Actual DUT temperature depends on total thermal load, including device power dissipation, socket and PCB heat loads, and ambient thermal resistance.
The MaxTC G4 can test a wide variety of integrated circuits and semiconductor packages, including low- to medium-power devices, processors, controllers, sensors, optical devices, and other socketed or soldered components.
The system uses a thermal head with a customized plunger that makes direct contact with the device under test. Heating or cooling is transferred directly to the DUT while the control system regulates its temperature using real-time sensor feedback.
Direct-contact temperature forcing regulates an IC by placing a thermally controlled plunger directly against the device package. It concentrates heating and cooling at the DUT without changing the temperature of an entire chamber.
The MaxTC G4 supports axial and right-angle thermal heads. These configurations allow the system to accommodate different test-board layouts, sockets, fixtures, and available workspace.
An axial head aligns the actuator and thermal head along the same axis. A right-angle head changes the approach direction, making it suitable for test setups with limited vertical clearance or different mechanical access requirements.
Yes. The thermal-head plunger can be customized to match the DUT’s dimensions, package surface, socket opening, and thermal requirements. The available plunger range supports contact areas from approximately 2 mm to 80 mm.
Yes. Soldered devices can be tested using a boom stand, toggle clamp, or customized fixture that positions the thermal head directly over the DUT.
Yes. Soldered devices can be tested using a boom stand, toggle clamp, or customized fixture that positions the thermal head directly over the DUT.
The MaxTC G4 provides temperature accuracy of ±0.2°C and temperature stability of 0.2°C, supporting repeatable semiconductor characterization and reliability testing.
The system supports programmable temperature transition rates of up to 75°C per minute, helping shorten thermal cycling and device test time.
The MaxTC G4 supports:
- PT100 temperature sensors
- Type K thermocouples
- DUT thermal-diode feedback
Its programmable thermal-feedback loop enables the control method to be matched to the device and test application.
The pneumatic clip-on actuator provides an adjustable contact force from 30 to 80 kgf, helping maintain consistent thermal contact without exceeding the mechanical limits of the package or socket.
Available configurations include:
- Pneumatic clip-on actuator
- Manual actuator
- Toggle clamp
- Boom stand
- Customized fixtures
- Protective enclosures
Yes. The MaxTC G4 is a self-contained, liquid-free temperature forcing system that does not require an external liquid chiller for normal thermal operation.
For suitable device-level applications, the MaxTC G4 can provide a direct-contact alternative to thermal streams, environmental chambers, external chillers, and LN2-based test systems.
